I am a certified health coach with a focus on helping people break sugar addiction. One main reason is because confidence feels better than any junk food tastes! Losing weight is a side effect from the much greater goal of living free from toxic cravings, having energy, sleeping good at night, a healthy liver, pancreas, kidneys and heart and experiencing the best digestion.
Personally, I have gone from eating vegan to eating vegan except for grains and gluten; I have experimented with plant based keto, paleo and even straight keto also in recent years. I listen to my body and feel best eating light. But, we are all different. According to blood type, and according to how I feel, I like eating mainly vegan with very little grains, if any, and not the high-oil diet of plant based keto. I do like hormone-free, pasture raised eggs from time to time, but no dairy. I can literally breathe, sing and feel my best without dairy. I have also learned to avoid protein bars, not just filled with sugar (of course) but even monk fruit and stevia. I do eat low-mercury seafood from time to time, but I have pretty much cut out chicken altogether and have not touched red meat since I was twenty-one years old.
That being said, if you work with me, I let everyone choose which way they would like to try to lose weight with only the request of keeping a food journal to track how certain foods make you feel. Additives like gums and sugar alcohols are not good for any of us, and they are no friend to the palate and an alkaline pH that does not crave sugar. The goal is to stop craving sugar. I have found there is nothing better for this than at least one avocado per day. Antioxidant filled fresh fruit helps the palate crave natural sugars vs. refined and manufactured sweet tastes. If you want to try a little keto, we can talk about bulletproof coffee in the mornings and adjusting to less carbs. I work with people who also want to practice intermittent fasting. It is up to you. Most addictions thrive in secret, so as you turn over all of your food to me per day, that practice alone can work to rid yourself of overeating in secrecy and give you the support you need to break a food addiction and literally start afresh. There is no set right way or wrong way when it comes to a healthy lifestyle free from sugar addiction. We can talk about the choices and come up with a plan that best suits you as an individual.
Many food addicts suffer from IBS, candida, parasites and heavy metals without realizing just how good they were born to feel living free from the side effects of a body that is not cleansed properly. Losing weight is really simply “losing waste.” Imagine a life free from toxic cravings for refined sugar and binges on heavy carbs, because such a new beginning is not too good to be true. By developing a lifestyle of fresh vegetables (non-GMO, organic is recommended), whole grains and fruits, a whole new future awaits of delicious food that will heal you and actually make you feel like a new person, inside out, with more than enough protein for your body’s needs per day.
This way of living is no kill-joy. Learn how bitter foods and spices like watercress and turmeric actually work to change the palate to make you crave less sugar and make natural sugars taste sweeter and more enjoyable, the way God meant for it to be all along. Stay away from packaged foods and begin enjoying berries, lemons, limes and grapefruit like never before. Then, taste a naturally sweet, artery-cleansing orange, and it will taste like candy. An apple will be one of the most delicious foods on earth. They key is taking it a day at a time and counting the days of your first thirty days to be set free from the ball and chain of toxic cravings.
All it takes is for a little time of eating right to pass (which could be as little as three days to a week), and the palate will change to begin craving the food that is good for you. The sweet cravings will go away, too. We will discuss certain vegetables, fruits and lettuces like arugula that change the pH in the body and work to help you begin craving more alkaline foods and less acidic foods in the first place. We will discuss tips to make detoxing from sugar (and foods that make you crave sugar) as enjoyable a process as it can be as you learn to listen to your body and how certain foods make you feel. We will work on new ways to relax to break the habit of eating out of stress. Once you have detoxed, the physical cravings will cease.
Our work together will focus on how you would like to go about breaking your sugar addiction. After all, this is about you, not me. You will find daily support from me in a plan that works best for you, meeting you right where you are, and makes you feel the most comfortable with foods that you will enjoy. Perfection is the enemy of good—even slipups can be part of your healing as they will help you continue to experience how the sugar highs are not worth the lows, until you finally choose to live every day for the rest of your life far above the sugar blues.
